It's been a while since our last post and we just wanted to let you know that we are still kickin' - especially our soon-to-be-born baby girl. Denise is in that home stretch and uncomfortable phase of the pregnancy but overall is feeling pretty good. I have made several late evening trips to the local market to purchase her favorite, Haagen Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream. I'm on a first name basis with the cashier who gives me the "bless your heart!" comment. I feel like Norm from Cheers! God willing our next post will have pictures of our baby girl.
In other news, Cooper finished his first stage performance as a member of Fagan's Gang in Oliver! The Broadway Musical. For a local production it was very good and we're proud of Cooper's hard work. Our younger two, William and Eston, were very supportive and memorized most of the songs from the Oliver CD. It's pretty entertaining to hear a three year old sing "You've got to pick a pocket or two" and "Consider Yourself" - too funny!
Lastly, we have finally finished our home renovation - kitchen, deck/screened porch etc. We are looking forward to sharing our home with family and friends. Denise is excited about having some good appliances and finally a dishwasher!
On the farm front we are enjoying some slow time to catch up with family and friends and do some other projects around the house . We're harvesting collard greens and our farm fresh eggs even though our hens have slowed down for the winter. We have planted three types of garlic and by the looks of things we'll probably have our first-ever garlic crop in June. I'm already looking at seed catalogs and planning for next year. We'll again try some new varieties and expand those that have done well, like last year's Valencia and Pruden's Purple tomatoes. I always seem to buy more seeds than we plant but hopefully we can find some good farm help this spring and summer. We'd like to increase our production and the variety of crops grown and maybe start a small CSA. We've met some great people and developed some valuable friendships over the past several years - this is what keeps us going. I hope to post more about our future plans soon. This little corner of God's country can take many directions and until it is revealed we appreciate your prayers.
From the Burns family to you and yours, Merry Christmas!
Talk to you soon!
