About Us

In December of 2000 we purchased a portion of what was the Shirley Farm in Ringgold, GA.  Mike has always been a yard-keeper and plant lover, and Denise has fond memories of the large gardens her grandparents kept in her childhood.  It also didn't hurt that Denise is a Ringgold native, and Grandma and Grandpa Pierce are close by and get to see their grandchildren.

About a year after the purchase, we decided that we would begin the early plantings of what we thought would become a U-pick blueberry farm.  After enlisting the help of some good friends, we planted the first 150 bushes in the spring of '03, followed by 150 more in the fall of that same year.  We added several rows of blackberry bushes, as well as several large areas for growing heirloom vegetables and melons.  We have experimented with a variety of crops to determine which ones grow best and deliver the best flavor in our area.  Each year we try something new and have found some real winners.

In 2005, we formed Burns Best Farm as a business venture and began the early stages of marketing and sales.  The feedback on our products have been positive and reinforces what we already believed - that people will seek out fresh produce, grown locally, using old heirloom varieties.  As our vegetable production and blueberry bushes continue to grow we look forward to increasing our marketing and sales outlets.

We would love to hear from you, so if you have any comments or suggestions about this site please contact us.  Also, if you have a favorite heirloom variety, share it with us so we can try it out!

Thanks for supporting the local grower!

Thanks for the mention. It looks like you have figured out the instructions. You are are making progress. It should get easier from here. And all you like is finishing. Tell Denise I'm ready for the 1 pound of butter when she gets it made. I have found a way to agitate the cream. I'll just care it around in my dump truck all day

We shopped the removal around quite a bit to find a lower price, and part of the deal we got with the company that did finally take it down involved them removing all the wood. They were able to sell it somewhere to offset their removal costs. We kept some of the smaller branches to use as firewood this winter. Mike is planning to seed the spot where the stump was removed soon.
